HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-173RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF LIEUTENANT AL SMITH UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE WHEREAS, after 29 years of dedicated public service, Lieutenant Al Smith retired on October 14th; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Al Smith began his career with the Butte County Sheriffs Office in 1991 after serving a combat tour with the United States Air Force in Operation Desert Storm; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Smith served the Sheriffs Office and the citizens of Butte County as, a Deputy Sheriff, Sheriff's Sergeant, and for the past 15 years as a Sheriffs Lieutenant; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Smith held a number of key positions in the Sheriffs Office during his career. Notably, he served for five years as the Chief Deputy Coroner and Investigations Lieutenant. He also served as the K-9 Coordinator, Bomb Squad Manager, and was the Emergency Manager for the Sheriff's Office. Lieutenant Smith was the Counter - Terrorism Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office for the last 14 years. He also served on the Behavioral Health Board for 6 years; and WHEREAS, During the Camp Fire, Lieutenant Smith acted as the Law Incident Commander and managed search and rescue efforts, missing person, investigations, and evacuations and security operations, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express, their deep appreciation for the exemplary service and unselfish dedication of Al Smith during his career with the Butte County Sheriff's Office. vote PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8`" day of December, 2020, by the following AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Lucero, Teeter, and Chair Lambert NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Ritter ABST0.111: Ilo-te Fi% d 9141 Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Deputy Steve Larnbert&-Kair Butte County Board of Supervisors
