This is a very exciting time as we move closer to ending the pandemic and getting our community and businesses back to normal. Many people likely have questions about how this process is going and when they can get vaccinated. Please continue reading as we hope to answer many of these questions. If specific questions are not answered after reviewing this information, please understand that new information is being made available each day as Butte County Public Health learns more from the State. State COVID-19 Vaccine Website When will the vaccine be available for the general public? For the general public, those who does not fall into one of the worker categories as defined by the State and who are under 65 years of age without critical health conditions, the vaccine is estimated to be available by Spring 2021, but that may change. It depends on vaccine production and how quickly other vaccines become available. Where will I go to get the vaccine once it’s available? Details are still be finalized, but getting your COVID-19 vaccine will be very similar to how you access the annual flu vaccine. This may include getting vaccinated at your local pharmacy, through your primary care provider or through a community vaccination clinic. Once this information is available, it will be posted on the Butte County COVID-19 Vaccine webpage. What are the phases of vaccine distribution and what phase is Butte County in now? While this information could change, to date the state has defined four phases of distribution, based on supply and priority populations. At this time, we have information about Phase 1a through Phase 1c. While supply is limited, fewer people will be able to get vaccinated. As supply increases, we can move through the phases to allow more people access to the vaccine. We are currently in Phase 1a. Phase 1 is divided into steps and tiers. At the time of this email, the vaccine is available to phase 1a in tiers 1 and 2. The vaccine will be available to Tier 3 soon, possibly as early as later this week. We anticipate starting Phase 1b, tier 1 by the middle of January. If you fall into one of the categories below, your employer or healthcare provider will communicate with you directly about when and where to get your vaccine – you should not contact Public Health.
