Rob Berry is a Chico attorney and advocate. He received photos of a client served in Project Room Key that provided a very clear picture of what untreated mental health issues look like. I am not going to share the disturbing photos but they are available online if you wish to see them. Basically, a client was suffering from medical and untreated mental health issues caused significant damage to a hotel room in Chico that was being paid for by Project Room Key. We have remedied the situation with the hotel and the client is now hospitalized receiving much needed treatment. What the pictures provide is an example of what my staff experience daily in the field. Social Workers and Public Guardian Deputies walk into homes daily and experience this level of disturbance while doing their best with limited services and resources to find solutions. Unfortunately, these photographs fell into the hands of an advocate who is now using them as a platform to cause undue finger pointing to our community partners. Myself and my team continue to provide services to over a hundred Project Room Key clients some of which are not homeless but instead require Project Room Key services because they can’t shelter at home safely with family members. I would like to assure you that Don Taylor and his entire team are in regular communication with our contractors who provide the daily case management and meal supports to every client housed in Project Room Key. As always, if you have any additional questions or concern I am happy to do my best to answer. Sincerely, Shelby Boston, MSW Director Public Guardian/Public Administrator Butte County Dept. of Employment and Social Services 202 Mira Loma Blvd. Oroville, CA 95965 T: 530.538.7891| F: 530.534.5745 Twitter | Facebook | YouTube | Pinterest This email and any files transmitted with it may contain Privileged or Confidential information and may be read or used only by the intended recipient.
