December 15, 2020 Public Health Weekly Briefing Points Butte County COVID-19 Numbers and Data See COVID-19 Dashboard The number of cases increased significantly over the weekend and Public Health staff were unable to get through them all to update the dashboard on Monday 12/14/2020. The dashboard has been updated today, 12/15/2020. The following is a breakdown in the number of confirmed cases since Friday: Friday – 12/11/2020: 415 cases (yes you read that right, 415 cases!) Saturday – 12/12/20: 105 cases Sunday – 12/13/20: 94 cases Monday – 12/14/20: 131 cases Purple Tier and Stay At Home Order Butte County remains in the purple tier and under the regional Stay At Home Order. Hospitals Oroville and Enloe hospitals continue to see an increased volume of COVID patients. To date they are not overwhelmed with ICU patient but the overall case count hospitalized continues to increase. Vaccine Planning Initial allocation of vaccine should be arriving at Enloe Hospital sometime this week. Oroville and Orchard Hospitals have submitted their applications to the State to be a vaccine provider and those applications are under review. Enloe did have their application submitted to the State well before Oroville and Orchard did, that is the only reason Enloe is receiving vaccine before the other hospitals. Confirmed vs. Probable Cases: Public Health will soon add information regarding “probable” cases to our dashboard. Below is the explanation that will also appear on the dashboard once the data starts getting posted: A case is considered CONFIRMED if the positive test is one that detects viral genetic material (e.g. PCR test). A case is considered PROBABLE if the positive test is one that detects proteins on the surface of the virus (antigen test). Antigen tests are more widely available as a "rapid" test. A person who has a positive antigen or “rapid” test is considered a probable case whereas a person who has a positive PCR-type test is considered a confirmed case. Both confirmed and probable cases are reportable, however, CDPH uses only confirmed cases for COVID-19 metrics and dashboards. BCPH responds to both confirmed and probable cases with case investigation and contact tracing. With the recent increased use of "rapid" antigen tests, BCPH will now be reporting antigen positive cases as probable cases on our dashboard. All dashboard data will specify whether cases are probable or confirmed. BCPH reporting of probable cases will NOT affect state metrics or county tier levels.
