In recent years, inspections have identified areas with limited or no vegetative cover and erosion rills on the downstream face of the dam. As described in a letter to your office dated November 30, 2020, PG&E plans to install temporary erosion control measures to limit the potential for additional erosion untillong-term mitigation measures are designed and constructed. updated plan and schedule for implementing the long-term erosion protection measures is provided below. In a letter to FERC dated June 26, 2019, PG&E provided a plan and schedule to address action items identified following the 2018 annual FERC inspection of the DeSabla- Centerville Project. One of the items, Action Item No. 2, was to investigate and repair erosion-affected areas on the downstream slopes of DeSabla Forebay Dam. For reference, Action Item No. 2 is copied below: At DeSabla Forebay, the erosion prone unvegetated areas on the downstream slope shows evidence of rodent burrows. Please investigate, make slope repairs, and abate as necessary. PG&E has completed its evaluation of potential alternatives for long-term erosion mitigation measures at the dam. Results of the evaluation are presented in a technical Mr. Frank L. Blackett, P.E., Regional Engineer January 19, 2021 Page 2 memorandum prepared by Gannett Fleming, Inc., a copy of which is enclosed with this letter for FERC review (Enclosure 1). Based on the results of the evaluation, PG&E has its preferred alternative, which will involve regrading and covering the downstream slope of the dam with a 6-inch-thick layer of 2-inch by 4-inch crushed, angular rock. PG&E expects to complete engineering design of the proposed erosion protection measures in the spring of 2021 and will submit a construction package for FERC review and authorization by July 31, 2021. PG&E also acknowledges receipt of authorizing PG&E to proceed with its plans for temporary erosion control measures at the dam. PG&E is preparing to install the temporary controls in late January of 2021. Should you have any technical questions concerning this matter, please contact dam safety engineer, Ms. Kaitlyn Thatcher, at (707) 342-7885. For general questions, , Ms. Jamie Visinoni, at (530) 215-6676. Sincerely, David L. Ritzman, P.E., G.E. Chief Dam Safety Engineer Enclosure: CUI//CEII DO NOT RELEASE 1.
