Hello Board of Supervisors,
I am writing to alert you to the ongoing concerns about the current City of Oroville's proposal to annex and develop the County properties at 18th
and Feather Ave in Thermalito. I have included the link to listen to the 1/19/2021 Oroville City Council discussing the proposed development. Two
council members have recused themselves, and the discussion goes on about the need for housing. Note, not the housing need of Camp Fire and
Bear Fire impacted residents. One person speaks of all this land availableto develop, maybe the City needs to focus on land in their limits and filling
the empty new homes off Grand Ave.
A s a public servant, t he Mayor of Oroville shares many of his own views and calls these two County properties a junkyard, even refers to them as
horrendous and goes on to say the residents surrounding these parcels have crimes being committed on their houses. The property owner
proposing this development has not been a good neighbor and has open violations on these County parcels. To have the City of
Oroville Mayor openly discuss this, makes the County look bad. Since the owner is known, he attended the Oroville City Planning
meeting, why is he not required to clean up the illegal dumping? Now the City wants to use $15,000 of SB2 funds to give the
property owner to assist with his proposed project. The good people of Thermalito that live in this neighborhood, have submitted
over 50 letters in opposition of this development, many are the same letter signed by residents that are not computer literate, that
does not make those submitted letters any less important.
All this and the parcels are not even in the City of Oroville.
