There are 11 or so structures in the NCF footprint that have completely burned with walls still standing. Pictures of such an example is attached to the letter. FEMA doesn’t consider these structures eligible for funding under the Government debris removal unless there’s an imminent danger of those standing structures, and the local agency makes a request. We are writing a letter at the request of Cal OES. If you have any questions, please let me know. Notonlyisitimportanttoremovemorethanonewallleftstandingofastructureforthesafetyofthe generalpublicbutitisinthepublicinteresttoremoveallcontaminateddebristoprotectandpreserve property,eliminatetheimmediateandseriousthreattopublichealth,andenabletheeconomicrecovery ofallaffectedcommunities,whichcannotbeaccomplishedifallstructuraldebrisarenotremoved.The economicrecoveryofourfireaffectedcommunitiesandButteCountyisdependentonownersrebuilding andreinvestinginourcommunity,whichcannotbeaccomplishedwithoutaneffectivedebrisremoval program. Itiscriticalthatallfiresurvivorswithmorethanonewallstandingbegiventoopportunitytoparticipate inPhaseIIdebrisremoval.LikeallfiresurvivorsimpactedbytheNorthComplexFire,theseproperty ownershavealongjourneyaheadofthemandeligibilitytoparticipateinPhaseIIdebrisremoval,isa majorwaywecanassistthemintheirrecovery.
