HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-021RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY l�2021 AS NATIONAL 2-1-1 DAY WHEREAS, Thursday, February 11, 2021 is National 2-1-1 Day and is being celebrated nationwide and statewide across a, network of local 2-1-1 providers who serve millions of Americans each year; 2-1-1isavailable tomore than 98% of the 0.3. population and more than 9696of California's population, WHEREAS, the purpose ufNational 3,1'1Day istVlet penp�leknow what isand how itcan support people imneed ufhealth and human services who are looking for help; bafree, multilingual, confidential heUpfinethat is available 24/7, 365days year including holidays WHEREAS, Centers connect people in their communities with accurate public information and essential resources, especially promoting access to free and low cost services; when a community member calls or texts, they reach a Resource Specialist who assesses their needs and helps them navigate the complexities of the human services system, WHEREAS, here inButte County, we are fortunate tohave the Butte-G|emm2-1-1 Center which, is operated by the local nonprofit organization, Help Central Inc., employing 15 staff persons working for Butte -Glenn 2-1-1, most of whom have education and training imsocial work, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1 was established seven years ago in Butte County through the work of an Advisory Council consisting of leaders from key local government agencies and local community based organizations- all of whom saw as a solution to address the critical need for improving access to services for Butte County residents, WHEREAS, the daily purpose and mission of Butte 2-1-1 is to bridge that gap between people in need of help and their successful access to support services, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1 is changing lives by providing that crucial connection for people to find the help they need, WHEREAS, Butte 2'1'1is a starting point, navigation center, and care coordination service for all residentsof Butte County, aind especially for our most vulnerable community members, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1 has played a crucial role in responding to Butte County's catastrophic local disasters, housing crisis, and the COV|D19paindemic, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1�RenourceSpecialists haverespondedtutheoailsandtexL ofmore than 39,O0QCamp Fire and North Complex Fire survivors, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1'1 has helped fire survivors and others access bais|c needs- food, water, emergency shelter, clothing, daily living supplies, propane household gnods,'aswell as health care, mental assistance, housing programs, emergency financial aid, trainsportation, veterans' services, family support, mental health resources,and more, WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1 operates asaCall Center for the County's homelessness Coordinated Entry system so that people without homes can! complete the HUD -required homelessness assessment with a Butte 2-1'1 Resource Specialist; Butte 2-1-1 staff have placed more than 1100 individuals and families on the Butte County Continuum of Care's permanent housing list, WHEREAS, Butte 2'1'1 is also the centralized access point for the Help Me Grow program, a system of care coordination for families with young children, and a multi -agency partnership with Butte County First 5 Children and Families Commission, WHEREAS, since the Camp Fire inNovember 2O18 Butte 2-1-Zscall volume has tripled and continues atthat high status amidst the C0V|D19 pandemicnespomse; Butte 2-1'1responded tu25,3S8contacts im2O1Aand 38,qQGcontacts im 2020. WHEREAS, Butte 2-1-1is partnering with the California Department of Health and with Butte County Public Health to provide accurate and up to date [QV|D19 public safety information and referrals to resources such as testing sites, vaccination clinics, and financial relief programs, WHEREAS, Butte 2'1'1functioned asthe telephone point ofintake for Project RnmmKeyamdfVrtheGreatPlates program operated by the County during COVID19 response, WHEREAS, Butte 2'1-1 has responded already to more than 5,500 contacts from the pubUcseekimg COV|D19 information and resources, and still counting, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors joins in support and celebration of National 2-1-1 Day, February 11, 2021, and in acknowledging and recognizing the work and dedication of the local Butte 2-1-1service and staff. vote: PASSED AND ADOPTED bvthe Butte County Board ofSupervisors this 23 rdday ofFebruary, 2021,bythe following AYES: Supervisors Luc n\Ritter, Kinnmelshme,Teeter, and Chair Connelly NOES: None Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer and Clerk ofthe Board ofSupervisors "6� C22� Bill Connelly, Chair q Butte County Board of Supervisors
