Board Members,
This is to give you a heads up that Public Health will be expanding eligibility for vaccines to
individuals 50+ years old. We’ve been notified that the State will be opening up this sector soon, but
we will be starting this before they formally give the green light to PH. The reason we’re going now
instead of waiting for the announcement is that we’re so far ahead of most other counties that
we’ve saturated the existing eligible categories. If we don’t do this we run the risk of having leftover
vaccines, which means we would be allocated fewer vaccines in the future, just when we need them
the most. We would be punished for being too good at vaccinating.
The rollout will look like this:
1.We authorize our provider partners who vaccinate their own patients;
2.We email everyone on the registration list who is 50 and over that they are eligible to
schedule an appointment; and
3.We publicize it widely.
One small “glitch” (since we’ll be ahead of the State) is that anyone over 50 will have to select the
age category of 65 and over in MyTurn to schedule their appointment. But, once they get past that
eligibility area they will use their actual birthdate. So, they are not being dishonest but the system
has that limitation that we have no control over.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
