HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-030WHEREAS, the Social Work Profession for decades has been dedicated to improving human veli -being and enhancing the basic needs of all people—especially the most vulnerable among us; WHEREAS, this year's Social Work Month theme, "Social Workers are Essential" embodies the heroic contributions of the Social Work profession to our nation, including the work Social Workers do to heal our nation during these times of pandemic, racial unrest, and economic uncertainty; WHEREAS, the Social Work Profession is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States, with more than 800,000 people expected to be employed as social workers by 2028; WHEREAS Social Workers work in all parts of our society to empower people to live to their fullest potential; and Social Workers play a crucial role in our nation's health, care system and have played a key role in this nation's response to COVID-19 and helping individuals, families and communities cope with the pandemic; WHEREAS, Social Workers for generations have advocated for positive changes that make our society a better place to live, including urging policymakers to adopt the minimum wage, improve workplace safety, and enact social safety net programs that help ameliorate hunger, homelessness, and poverty; WHEREAS, Social Workers are always present in times of crisis, helping people overcome issues such as death and grief and helping our communities recover from devastating wildfires, earthquakes and other natural disasters; WHEREAS, Social Workers, for generations, have worked with other professions, lawmakers, civil rights and community groups, to, bring equal rights for all, including women, LGBTQ and those of various cultural, ethnic and religious groups. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of March 2021 as Social Work Appreciation Month in Butte County; recognizing, that the Social Work Profession makes society a better place to live by advocating for positive change; and encourages all citizens to consider Social Work during the month of March and throughout the year. vote PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 23" day of March, 2021, by the following AYES: Supervisors Lucero, Ritter, Kimmelshue, Teeter, and Chair Connelly NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ATTEST: Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer and Clef he Board of Supervisors M Deputy Bill Connelly, ChUir Butte County Board of Supervisors
