Subject:FEMA Grants Extension for Direct Housing for Camp Fire Survivors
Date:Thursday, March 25, 2021 3:52:37 PM
Good afternoon –
Today we received notice that FEMA granted a four-month extension for the direct housing mission
provided for Camp Fire survivors. This includes the housing currently provided in Gridley and at the
Hegan/Aztec site in Chico. The current expiration date for the housing is May 12, 2021 and that is
now extended to September 12, 2021. FEMA will begin charging rent to occupants on June 1. Rent
had been suspended for these occupants.
There are currently 124 household in direct housing and FEMA provided this four-month extension
because they understand from their case management data that the majority of occupants have a
permanent housing plan that can be accomplished before September 12 of this year.
FEMA will be contacting the households to inform them of this extension.
This gives us a little more time to work with our local voluntary agencies to see if there may be
interest in acquiring units through the donations program, moving them to a new site, and
continuing the housing for any remaining households. After a year, the agency would be able to use
the units as needed for housing in the community. The current hurdle for most local voluntary
agencies is the funding for a site, moving the units, and providing case management for an additional
year.
Thank you.
