Good morning Board members,
As many of you are aware, suicide has been a significant concern for many members of
our community in the recent year. Given that I wanted to highlight a recent email we
received about how some of the suicide intervention programming that we help
sponsor in Butte helped save a young high schoolers life this week. With all of the bad
news out there hopefully this is a welcome message that our intervention efforts are
effective and helping those at high risk of suicide.
Thanks,
Scott

Good morning Scott and Holli,
Butte County continues to support the PEI Programs administered by CalMHSA on behalf of our

contributions. Butte is always well represented throughout the Directing Change program: film
submissions, regional winners, state winners, and production of the annual Directing Change awards
ceremony. Please see the below email from a Chico High School Psychologist sent to the Directing
Change team.
Thank you for your continued support of Directing Change and the youth in California.

Hello
Here is a note we just received today form a teacher in Chico in response to support Directing
Change (specifically Stan) has been providing to them after they lost a student to suicide (staff
debriefings and youth and parent presentations). And it is thanks our partnership that we have the
resources to do this work
Hi Stan,
I want to reach out and share with you that your video presentation in our English classes saved a
life today. A student had a plan and was ready to act on that plan. He shared that he previously tried
over spring break, but his little brother unknowingly interrupted him. He saw the video in class
yesterday and learned about the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. He said that he did not know
about that resource prior to the presentations. He was really struggling this morning and he called
the Lifeline. They were able to encourage him to go to school and talk to someone which he did.
After a risk assessment and determining he had a plan and a means, I transported him to our
behavioral health Crisis center and did a warm handoff.
Thank you so much for all you have done for our school. I appreciate all the countless hours you
have spent providing support, developing the video and doing the parent presentation.
Have a great afternoon,
