Group, I am sharing a link of drone footage of our heavy equipment preparing one of our Vegetation Management Program (VMP) projects below Cohasset which is approximately 3000 acres. The 2 dozer are dragging an anchor chain to crush the thick and tall brush. The concept is to create a buffer of crushed fuel around smaller blocks of land within the 3000 acre project. Creating smaller blocks will allow us to use prescribed fire much easier than trying to burn 3000 acres at once. The crushed (dead) brush will burn with lower intensity and can be burned under wetter conditions than standing live fuels. Once the buffer is burned in around the blocks ensuring no chance of fire escaping the project boundaries, we will return with a Helitorch to burnout the interior fuels. This is a multi-year project. Project Description Loafer Creek LLC VMP in Butte County south of the community of Cohasset at 90 Nicalog Road, Chico, CA 95973, Latitude: 39° 50’ 45” N, Longitude: 121° 48’ 48” W: BTU HFEOs will be chaining brush using an anchor chain and two BTU dozers to prepare the area for broadcast burning. Broadcast burning is planned for April 26 on 10-15 acres that have been previously treated by landowner Ken Dixon. This is a recently approved VMP totaling approximately 3,000 acres in a very brushy area with little recent fire history. This project will enhance the protection of Cohasset’s vital evacuation route as well as provide watershed, wildlife, and grazing benefits. The stakeholders for this project are several private landowners and Loafer Creek LLC, a corporation created for mitigation banking.
