LaMalfa Announces Selection of District Road Infrastructure Priorities
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced an initial list of
infrastructure projects for consideration of federal priority spending. The House of Representatives
altered funding procedures earlier this year to allow Members of Congress to nominate up to five
transportation projects and ten non-transportation projects in their district. The projects must meet
stringent criteria including having significant state or local matching funds, be in the planning
process already, and be under $15 million in requested funds. Cities, counties, and water districts
within LaMalfa’s district were given the criteria and asked to submit projects that met the
requirements. Non-transportation projects will be announced later this week once the deadline for
submission has passed. Congressional Member designated projects are not guaranteed to receive
funding but are a publicly available priority list that allows projects to receive additional
opportunities for federal funding.
LaMalfa said: “It is important to improve the north states’ basic infrastructure: roads, reservoirs,
canals, broadband and wastewater facilities. These are some of the most basic functions of
government and what we should be focused on rather than the continued efforts to push
government dominance into all aspects of daily life. I will continue to work with local entities to help
bring needed funding to help complete these true infrastructure projects.”
LaMalfa Designated Road Projects Proposals:
1. Fix 5 Cascade Gateway Project, $15 million, Sponsored by the Shasta Regional
Transportation Agency – This project will expand from 4 lanes to 6 lanes 5.2 miles of I-5 in
Redding between SR273 and the 44/299 interchange.
2. State Route 49 Corridor Improvement Project, $15 million, Sponsored by the Nevada
County Transportation Commission – This project will expand Highway 49 between LaBarr
Meadows Road and the McKnight Way Interchange in Grass Valley from 2 lanes to 4 lanes.
3. Southgate Interchange, $1.8 million, Sponsored by the City of Chico – Funding will help
complete the environmental reporting required to build a new Southgate Avenue interchange
and remove two stoplights on SR99 on the south end of Chico.
4. Roe Road Extension – Phase 1, $1.8 million, Sponsored by the City of Paradise – Connects
Pentz Road and South Libby Road and fixes major evacuation issues for the city of Paradise.
5. Cohasset Road Widening and Fire Safety Project, $900,000, Sponsored by Butte County –
Funding to help complete planning and environmental requirements to expand and enhance
Cohasset Road for fire safety.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District,
