FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FDA Approves Pfizer Vaccine EUA for Adolescents Ages 12-15 – Authorization from
CDC and State Required for Administration in California
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – On May 10, 2021, FDA extended the Emergency Use
Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine to ages 12 and
older. Before administration of the vaccine is authorized for these ages in California,
both the CDC and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup (WSSSR)
must review and approve these recommendations. The WSSSR provides an
additional layer of vaccine safety review for California and other western states. If
authorized by the CDC and WSSSR, Butte County will follow these
recommendations and offer Pfizer to persons age 12 and older.
At this time, it is unknown how long the CDC and WSSSR review and authorization
will take. If authorized, Butte County Public Health will provide an update to the
public.
