Unfortunately, a Butte County resident in their 20s recently passed away due to COVID-19. BCPH expresses its sincere condolences to the person’s family and friends. It’s important for the public to recognize COVID-19 is STILL very serious and can cause severe illness and death to people at any age. It is vital to know the emergency warning signs for COVID-19 and seek healthcare early, especially if you are at higher risk due to age or underlying health conditions. Emergency warning signs of COVID-19 include, but are not limited to: Trouble breathing Persistent pain or pressure in the chest Confusion Inability to wake or stay awake Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips or nails beds. Many common health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, immunocompromised state, cancer and others can cause COVID complications. For those with underlying health conditions who are at risk for severe COVID-19, monoclonal antibody treatment is effective at decreasing the likelihood of hospitalization and death from COVID-19. Monoclonal antibodies must be administered by a healthcare provider within 10 days of symptom onset, underscoring the importance of seeking healthcare early. BCPH urges all eligible residents to get vaccinated for COVID-19. All vaccines currently available are proven safe and effective for youth ages 12 and older at preventing illness. All the vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death. To view a full list of vaccine locations in Butte County, visit: www.buttecounty.net/COVIDvaccine. ###
