WHEREAS, libraries are universal centers that provide access to safe space information, reading and learning for
all people, equal access to everyone is a core value of libraries; and
WHEREAS, libra:rie,s play an important role in supporting the regeneration and rebuilding of the communities; and
WHEREAS, libraries, library workers, and volunteers open up aworld ofpossibilities through programs, outreach
activities and power ofliteracy; whether patrons visit in person or virtually, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to
explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, information, and educational programs;
and
WHEREAS, libraries and library workers have been at the frontline of expanding access and creating equity in this
nation's response to COVID-19 and helping individuals, families and communities to cope with the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across the United States are celebrating National
Library Week from April 4tmApril I0, 2021with the theme, "Welcome tmYour Librmrv" promoting the idea that libraries
extend far beyond the four walls of a building — and that everyone is welcome to use their services. Butte County Library,
in the spirit of National Library Week's theme is ready to welcome everyone back in the library; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
April 2021 as Library Appreciation Month in Butte County; recognizing the contributions of Library workers and volunteers;
and encourage all residents to visit their libraries in person or virtually during the month of April and throughout the year
to explore new books, programs, education and learning courses and engage with your Librarian, because of you libraries
transform.
