great state ofCalifornia during the month ofApril 3821. Preventing child abuse and neglect isaserious problem affecting
every segment mf the community, and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone; and
WHEREAS, children are the most valuable resources and will shape the future of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, child maltreatment occurs when people find themselves in stressful situationis, without community
resources and don't know how tocope; and
WHEREAS, advocates for children recognize increased risk for children both in person and online amid the
pandemic; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect can be reduced by making sure each fam,ily has protective factors in, place that
will eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and developmental well-being of children; and
WHEREAS, child, abuse can have long-term psychological, emotional, and physical effects that have lasting
co�nsequemmesfor victims ofabuse; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because ofpartnerships created among state and
local government agencies, schools, faith communities, health communities, civic organizations, law enforcement, the
business community, and families; and
WHEREAS, prevention remains the best defense for our children and families.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognize April
2021 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Butte County and call upon all residents to recognize this month by dedicating
themselves to the task of improving the quality of life for all children and families.
