I write to you today as one of your constituents who supports reopening Butte County
immediately.The data supports that weare not in a local public health emergency. Our hospitals
are not overwhelmed and our county has been able to manage Covid-19on its own. County
businesses, citizens, children, and our community at-large,areat risk of losing everything. It is
time to reopen. Everyday we are asked to manage and measure risk;you cannot live without
some level of risk, but at this point catastrophic failure seemsmost likely based on the state of
our economy in the current shutdown.We can change that!
I urge you to listen to your constituents. I urge you to fight for our rights as citizens and I urge
you to trust us,as we here in Butte County have certainly faced other equally dire situations.
I am requesting that you, as a representative ofourcommunity, agendize a motion to terminate
th
the Butte County local emergency ratified March 10, 2020 and fight for Butte County to reopen
andthrive again.
Not only is it the right thing to do, it is your obligation under Government Code Section 8630,
subdivision (d) to terminate the emergency at the earliest possible datethat conditions warrant.
Our hospitals are not overwhelmed. Our resources are not in short supply. Conditions warrant
termination of the emergency.
On the other hand, suicide rates are skyrocketing, businesses are failing, children are falling
further and further behind in their education and our community is sufferingand must do better.
Everything is at stake.Please reopen Butte County now.
