I am sure you all have seen/heard the CDC revised school guidance is out. Public Health just
participated in a call with CDPH regarding this guidance. California is going to align (mostly) with the
CDC school guidance. However, California is going to require masking for all students and staff at K-
12 schools while indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Several reasons provided for this include (but not limited to): delta variant concerns, difficulty for
school staff to “police” who is/is not vaccinated and therefore who should have a mask on as
opposed to those who should not and they feel this will allow all schools to go back to full, in-person
classes without having to address the barrier of having a minimum of 3’ distance between each
person. The state guidance (they are calling it a requirement) should come out on Monday.
In summary, full in-person classes resume in the fall with no distancing requirements but 100%
masking requirement for all students and staff indoors.
Respectfully,
Danette York, MPH, CPH
