Good morning,
In response to a recent statement issued by CDPH regarding K-12 Face Covering guidance, Butte
County Public Health will be issuing a clarifying statement, please see below.
CDPH Statement issued on 7/12/21:
“Mask enforcement will continue to be handled by local schools as the state recognizes the unique
needs of each district and child.”
Some residents have misinterpreted the CDPH statement as local schools having a choice whether
or not to follow the State’s guidance and require universal masking.
BCPH Statement in response to CDPH:
The new CDPH K-12 guidance outlines “mandatory requirements” for schools for the 2021-2022
school year, which includes that “K-12 students are required to mask indoors, with exemptions per
CDPH face mask guidance.” In a later statement, CDPH included that local schools will handle mask
enforcement - not if they will enforce it, but how they will enforce it.
