People with complete educations are not committing street crime. People with complete educations do not need social service. People with complete educations are not being stopped and shot dead by law enforcement. Complete education is the only answer, to every problem we have as a society today. Please don’t be angry… I’m just trying to point something out…. Yelling, Anger, Emotion, Cruelty, Impatience, Lack of Information. Leave it out of your interpersonal communication. CynthiaTruth Jul 17 How do you handle your most important relationships? Or even just the casual ones? How emotional are your conversations about topics and issues? My premise regarding the art of communication between humans, centers around this: We need to express ourselves much better than we do. We need to learn how to get our opinions across effectively. We need to have mercy for the opinions of others. We need to take the emotion out of a discussion. There is value in something that everybody says. If you don’t find it, than maybe the conversation should be short. You need to be heard, respected, and to have your values recognized. You have valid, salient, and meaningful opinions. Many people do. If you have a discussion, and commit to learning something from the other side, the conversation can be more civilized and more meaningful. Remember also, that in the scheme of things, there isn’t much worth being upset about. There are many of us and it’s a small planet. It is better to get along. You can realize your goals regarding politics and current events, in harmony with all others. Itcan be done! Please Let Me Know What You Think. Please Help Me Save Our World. Please don’t be angry… I’m just trying to point something out…. I Am An Advocate For Modesty. I'm almost a prude. CynthiaTruth Jul 19 I am an advocate for modesty. For all people, and especially for young girls. I think Beyonce is a disgrace. I was hoping she would be more like Sarah Vaughan, and instead she’s no more than a billion dollar trollop. I think hip hop and rap are a travesty, and I give a great deal of credit to those such as LL, for trying to make hip hop respectful and positive. The very notion that we would preach this garbage to our own people, is just another indication of how little we care about our own selves. As if the lyrics to these songs were not, in and of themselves, degrading enough, then we have young children trying to emulate what the adults are talking about in the music. To see a child sing the words to these vulgar songs, trying to act ‘grown’, with lyrics that take explicit content to the last level... it makes me heart-sick. Ten year old girls dancing suggestively and repeating words they don’t even fully understand… why are we letting this happen? Why aren’t we upset that our prepubescent girls are talking about having sex already? I know I sound like my grandmother, but what we are feeding ourselves via popular media today, is ruinous. We need to raise people that have more regard for one another. We need to educate our people better than we do. Leave a comment Share Please Let Me Know What You Think. Please Help Me Save Our World. Please don’t be angry… I’m just trying to point something out…. Critical Race Bamboozle! What's the real message... CynthiaTruth Jul 23 The reason it feels like your rights to vote are being suppressed, and your desire to explore critical race theory is being debunked, is because there's an element of society that wants the whole race issue to be over with. That’s what the underlying point of the contention is all about. We don’t want to hear why the mistakes of the past, are affecting your ability today, to provide for yourself, raise a respectable family, stay away from crime, and do great things in the community. You are free, and quite capable of doing these things on your own, as is everybody. Your preference for blaming others for our shortcomings, and receiving assistance, over self sufficiency, is evident, if unspoken. You're talking about the past and using it as an excuse for our unemployment levels, our chronic need to be clothed and fed by others, our worst-of-show education statistics, and an insatiable propensity to resist law enforcement and shoot each other in the streets. Civilized society would prefer to see you get an education, do the work, and get your own piece of the pie. We are the only ones that can fix this. Make education primary, for everyone. DESIDERATA As a child I learned more from this poem than I did from my parents. CynthiaTruth Jul 25 Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Please don’t be angry… I’m just trying to point something out…. If You Aren't Taught How... You Probably Won't Know How... CynthiaTruth Jul 26 For years I’ve said nothing publicly about this, but now I feel it needs to be said. It's part of a FB discussion. This was the gist of the other person’s comment, in defense of a new Negro Revolution: “We had Black Wall Street ... Burned to the ground .. There will always be standouts in our community because we have to be twice as good at everything just to play the game .. My question to you is this... Civil Rights Legislation was passed over 50 years ago …what has really changed .. ?? There is Oprah but no WINFREYS.. There is Michael .. But no Jordans... There are The Trumps The Kennedys The Rockefellers and it goes on and on …built on the backs of slave laborers.. Its time for America to look at some hard truths and this generation …they want change …real change... By any means necessary” ..My Answer:... It isn't white peoples' fault that we don't have wealth and family dynasties. It's OUR OWN fault. For the same reasons that we aren't ANYWHERE where the money is. WE DON'T KNOW HOW. Do YOU know how to be rich? We aren't taught that. And it's well documented that we don't know how/haven't been taught, to aspire. Even Michelle O will tell you how she was brutalized by black children in school because she was intelligent and aspirational. I was antagonized in school because I had great diction, and did not butcher the English language the way the other kids did. They used to wait for me outside of class, until my teachers started to have to drive me home. Can you imagine. My own people trying to intimidate me into mediocrity. We weren't taught the fundamentals of being a successful human. DO YOU THINK THE KENNEDY CHILDREN OR THE ROCKEFELLER CHILDREN WERE RAISED THE SAME WAY THAT THE CHILDREN ARE RAISED IN BLACK CULTURE TODAY? How can we be expected to achieve when we aren't given the tools, by the people that are expected to be our parents and guardians. They don't have the tools either. It's not part of our culture to know anything. I was raised back in the 1950’s, almost every day of my life, not to sass white people. That’s it! That’s the legacy my family gave me. To this day I panic just a little, when I have to have a conversation with someone. My grandparents were deathly afraid of being hung from a tree. It wouldn't have mattered if there wasn't one single tree in Queens. We don't have a legacy of anything but fear and separation. Did you ever equate the whole baby mama baby daddy culture, to slavery? Cuz that’s where it comes from. People don't think much about what happened in your family, and how it repeats down the line. I was not taught one other thing about who to be, or how to get there. But I DO know how to fold clothing properly and clean an iron. We have every opportunity to become Oprah or Michael or any of the others. But we don't have the skills, and rather than work hard to develop the kind of people that built black wall street, we sink and fade. We become our human selves, and by that I mean we blame other people for our problems. We demand reparations. Successful people today are giving us every chance. They pick up our quirky speech patterns, they love our music, they've given us BILLIONS in social welfare, and I guarantee they are anxious to accept us as equals. The problems we have communicating will manifest as unpleasant and problematic relationships at every juncture. The fewer of these skills that you utilize, the worse your relationships will be. This holds true for your personal life, as well as your discussions with strangers. If your personal and professional encounters have historically been abysmal, or even mildly problematic, then you might consider learning a few communication rules and techniques. Is there even a chance that you do not need to improve, if only just a little bit? The most important interpersonal communication element, is being able to see both sides of the argument; to be able to make the case for either side, pro AND con. If you can do that, it means you have a suitable amount of information, to be able to come to a reasonable conclusion about something. It also is an indication to the other person, that you might well have given thought to more than just one side of the coin. It indicates that you are at least learned, and that what you say can be trusted. You don’t necessarily have to agree with both sides of a discussion, but you should be able to understand and explain all sides of an issue, and acknowledge that mostly all sides have some small kernel of truth or validity. This also enables you to show the other person, that you understand and validate their opinions, which goes a long way towards facilitating successful conversations. Conversely, perhaps it is best not to formulate hard and fast opinions about anything, if you do not have all the facts at hand. It is best at those moments, to be honest with everyone involved (including yourself), in admitting out loud, that your fact base might not be complete. Something like, ‘This is how I feel, but I might not have all the information…’ Immutable opinions do not make for smooth communication. Listen well, admit when you might be incorrect or partially uninformed, and acknowledge other viewpoints as interesting, valid, or worth further study. Out loud… Do you always have all the facts from BOTH sides of the story, before you come to a conclusion? Do you listen and hear what others say, and validate and agree when possible? CynthiaTruth Jul 29 Here's what living during a pandemic has taught me: Ear muscles are not strong enough. Maybe I just have weak ears. They simply are not holding up against the pull of a mask. When I went to two masks, I feared my ears would remain for all time, curled over and crunched. Hopefully our next generations will grow to have stronger ear muscle resistance. Or else we'll see face protection in the future that does not involve the ears. Secondly, I just assumed, as did many other people (I bet), that wearing a mask would help to block out smells. I had particularly hoped that that would manifest itself as protection against phantom supermarket flatulence. But it did not. However, I have been able to cut way down on the amount of face makeup I wear. Masks just rub it off. I can also talk to myself all day long, without anyone seeing my lips move. These are definite benefits. Sadly though, I've come to see how unpleasant it is for many of us, to simply spend time living simply. Or quietly. Or isolated and in solitude…without complaint. We seem to need stimulation from outside ourselves, in order to be happy. We are so rigid, and intolerant, that a temporary inconvenience, turns us apoplectic. Naturally it doesn't apply to everyone. Many have families and many have adapted to the inconvenience. But I don't think that collectively, we know how to be alone with ourselves. And many don’t know how to suffer with dignity. On the grandest of scale, it has become crystal clear to me, what weak and whiny humans we can be, compared to, say.... the Conestoga covered wagon people. Or the people who sacrificed for war, or pestilence, or plague. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of men, and the few hundred women, that flocked to recruiting stations in the 1940's, or any other year where there was world-wide conflict in which our country was compelled to join. They left home and family, lied about their age, and died in massive numbers, willingly. They rushed to volunteer, and were gleeful at being drafted, because America collectively wanted to speak with one voice, against the enemy. Now compare those days, and those people, to today. We have no true vision of a collective spirit, and as such, we complain about wearing masks, refuse vaccination, and come up with conspiracy theories, rather than ban together against our common enemy. Even when faced with enormous covid fatality numbers, where senior citizens, and now babies and young children, are dying… we insist on our right to say ‘no’ to a vaccine, rather than caring how those selfish attitudes threaten the rest of us. A ‘greater good’ no longer seems to exist. Even in the face of seeing the pandemic escalate once again, some of us choose our own self-interest over the common good. Self-centered, selfish, uninformed, arrogant and down-right heartless... I hate to say this, but we are a spoiled and entitled generation. It's one thing to collectively suffer through the realities of life…. Together. It's another thing to expect that you shouldn't have to, decide that you won’t, and sabotage our collective recovery. (And THEN complain when it takes even longer to recover!) Do we still ask WWJD? In this case (all cases), we need to. Leave a comment Share Please Let Me Know What You Think. Hot Heads Loose Try the Artful Approach CynthiaTruth Jul 18 Control is required when conversations become volatile. Can you overcome your emotions and use intellect and persuasion instead, when discussing important issues? Why is there a need to become agitated? We want to help people and we need to. But we don't have enough money for even half of our aspirations. It's not a personality issue. It’s not a matter of life or death. It is a matter of simple reality. Mathematics. Economics. You don’t win over people by yelling at them. You don’t engage people by getting angry with them. Let's take the emotion out of political conversations, and deal with the principal facts and issues we can all agree upon. § We never stop coming up with ways to spend money. § There's not enough money. Let's begin from there. It’s much easier to come up with solutions when you boil down the problem and remain level headed. In this case, let's hire young people out of college. We’ll give them a pad and pen and send them out to figure out where we are wasting money. We’ll let them figure out how to consolidate and how to eliminate. Let's work on common sense solutions, instead of acrimony. If someone doesn't agree with you, getting angry at them accomplishes nothing. Except perhaps the opposite of what you want. It pushes them away. If someone disagrees with me, I engage them. Getting angry at them is not engaging. I try to find common ground, and validate their opinions when possible. I try to ask questions that create conversation. I try to spend more time on explanations and counterpoint. I avoid saying the things which will make them angry. I control my emotions, and use appropriate humor when it helps. I remain civil. When I’m done I have a better understanding of why they believe what they do And they of me. Controlling a conversation for better outcomes.... Itcanbe done! Leave a comment Share Please Let Me Know What You Think. Please Help Me Save Our World.
