Captain Boyd,
Please consider my request to provide a variance to the 2020 California Board of Forestry and Fire
Protection SRA Fire Safe Regulations section 1276.01. Attached is a proposed site plan providing
additional detail to clarify the requested variance.
The shape of the property, contours of the land and existing infrastructure severely limit the area to
build structures. On the attached site plan I have proposed a new residential structure with attached
garage that would have portions placed ten feet from the northwest property line and twenty three feet
from the southeast property line. To mitigate fire concerns, I have cleared the property of all hazard
trees and will create and maintain defensible space. Additional mitigations providing same practical
effect as the SRA setback include; deletion of the glazing from the southeast garage door, installation of
triple glazed windows in the master bathroom and installation of five feet of non-combustible hardscape
surrounding the structure
Section 1276.01 states that for parcel one acre and larger, a minimum thirty foot setback for buildings
and accessory buildings is required. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions noted above, that would limit
the buildable area significantly. I do thoroughly understand and have great appreciation for defensible
space and will ensure that this proposed variance does not present an additional fire hazard or risk.
