Dear Applicant,
The plans you recently submitted have been reviewed by the Fire Department referencing the 2016 edition of the California Fire Code (CFC). The numbered comments listed below in the body
of this letter must be addressed prior to Fire Department Approval of your project.
SRA Area: This project is within the State Responsibility Area, and a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, ensure compliance with SRA Fire Safe Regulations. Adequate fire protection
measures must be in place during construction. All flammable vegetation and fuels caused by site development and construction, road and driveway construction and/or fuel modification
must be removed, chipped, buried or burned prior to completion of building permit.
Access: Prior to building construction, provide an all-weather access of at least 10 feet wide for residential, and 20 feet wide for commercial, and 15 feet vertical clearance that will
allow for ingress and egress and accommodate a 40,000-pound fire apparatus to within 150 feet of all structures.
Address: Ensure structure has appropriate building identification. Minimum 4" high and 0.5" stroke. Ensure the street address is posted at the street main entrance and on the main or
first building encountered.
Gates: Gate entrances shall be at least two feet wider than the width of the traffic lane(s) serving that gate and a minimum width of fourteen feet unobstructed horizontal clearance
and unobstructed vertical clearance of fifteen feet. All gates providing access from a road to a driveway shall be located at least thirty feet from the roadway and shall open to allow
a vehicle to stop without obstructing traffic on that road.
The Fire Department Knox Box can be omitted as Butte County CAL Fire does not have a Knox Box program.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is currently open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you wish to discuss these plan check comments, please call during our business hours or e-mail
