Project: Tenant Improvement S-1 to A-2
The Plans that you have recently submitted have been reviewed by the Fire Department referencing the 2016 edition of
the California Fire Code (CFC). The numbered comments listed below in the body of this letter must be addressed prior to
Fire Department Approval of your project.
1. Site Address: Ensure the street address is posted at the street main entrance and on the main or first building
encountered.
a. Address numbers shall be minimum of 4" high and %" stroke on a contrasting background at main entrance,
or large enough to see from the street/highway. Address sign shall be all weather.
2. Ensure that building is identified with same standard address. Buildings can be numbered, lettered, or named, but
must be same label as staff on site uses.
3. Fire Extinguishers are required. (Ordinary/Moderate Hazard)
a. Provide one 2A1OBC Fire extinguisher for every 3000 square feet.
b. Travel distance to any extinguisher shall not exceed 75 feet.
c. Extinguishers shall be mounted no higher than 5 feet from finished floor.
d. Extinguishers shall be mounted along normal paths of travel, shall be readily available and easily accessible.
4. Maximum occupancy shall not exceed 299 persons. If occupancy exceeds 299 persons, a fire sprinkler system shall
be required.
5. Provide occupancy load signage as per Chapter 10 CFC.
6. Decorative vegetation and shall comply with Section 806 CFC.
7. Drapes and combustible wall hangings shall be limited to 10% of the wall or ceiling they are covering, or provide
certificate of fire retardant treatment as per T-19 Division 1, §1321.1 or shall be labeled according to T-19 Division 1,
§1324. Non-combustible decorations and hangings are not limited, however they shall not block visibility or access
to exits.
8. Natural cut trees shall not be allowed in this building. (unsprinklered building)
9. Hand held open flame devices are prohibited.
10. Open flame devices are prohibited except for approved candle holders on dining tables.
11. Combustible waste containers larger than 40 gallons shall be made of noncombustible material, or approved
combustible material and provided with a lid.
