WorkingforCalifornia Working for California | August 2021 WorkingforCalifornia:AMonthlyNewsletterfromtheCPUC CPUC Takes Action to Hold PG&E Accountable for Safety Practices The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is conducting a fact-finding review regarding a pattern of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) missing inspections and other safety incidents to determine whether a recommendation to place PG&E further within the Enhanced Oversight and Enforcement Process is warranted. The Enhanced Oversight and Enforcement Process was developed as a condition for approving PG&E’s plan for exiting bankruptcy in May 2020. In April 2021, the CPUC placed PG&E into the first step of the Enhanced Oversight and Enforcement Process based on the utility’s failure to sufficiently prioritize clearing vegetation on its highest-risk power lines as part of its wildfire mitigation work in 2020. MORE minute cap of seven cents ($0.07) for intrastate CPUC Unveils New Website to Better Serve Californians The CPUC and the Office of Energy Safety Infrastructure (Energy Safety), in their joint commitment to safety and transparency, have called on San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE) to present updates on their electric safety related efforts. The Aug. 25 meeting from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. will provide the CPUC, Energy Safety, and the public thorough information about the electric safety related efforts of SDG&E and SCE, including wildfire prevention actions and potential infrastructure safety issues. Members of the Board of Directors of both utilities will present and answer questions from the CPUC and Energy Safety, and there will be opportunity for public comment. The virtual meeting can be accessed via webcast (Spanish captions will be available) and phone (both an English and Spanish line), and the webcast will be archived for subsequent viewing. Those who would like to make comment must make comment by phone.
