Please exercise judgment before opening .. attachments, clicking on links, or replying. clerkoftheboard@buttecounty.net rd August 23, 2021 To Whom It May Concern, It has come to my attention that on Sept. 14 at the Butte County Board of Supervisors meeting, there will be a discussion about rescinding the Emergency Proclamation concerning COVID. I urge the Board NOT to rescind the Emergency Proclamation. For the safety and well-being of our community we should follow the State of California's COVID guidelines. Taking appropriate precautions now will help protect our citizens; our ability to reopen businesses, schools and public events safely and without major setbacks; and our return to “normal” activity as quickly and painlessly as possible. Enloe Medical Center just distributed the following COVID-19 status: rd According to the attached article from August 23, 2021, “A CalMatters analysis shows moreCalifornians are hospitalized with COVID-19 in six rural counties than any other time since the pandemic began.” https://calmatters.org/health/coronavirus/2021/08/california- covid/?fbclid=IwAR3tBYkmfO27OVBCsBK27o-PoLQxnynz3yPybBVBePwUvrMrM-u_tojCBVE nd Only 40.10% of the residents of Butte County are currently fully vaccinated as of August 22, 2021: https://data.democratandchronicle.com/covid-19-vaccine-tracker/california/butte- county/06007/ This puts our community at higher risk. In addition to adults who have opted out of vaccination, children under 12 are not yet eligible for the vaccine yet many have returned to in-person school settings. There are many reasons to be excited about this return, but it is our responsibility to take reasonable precautions to minimize the risks posed. th As of this Aug. 10 NPR article, 21% of all COVID 19 cases are now children: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/08/10/1026375608/nearly-94- 000-kids-got-covid-19-last-week-they-were-15-of-all-new-infections Pediatric wards are filling beyond capacity in some locations. We do not want to be faced with this heartbreaking situation firsthand. There are no easy answers when dealing with a worldwide pandemic with a highly contagious, evolving disease at its center, but as elected leaders of our community I hope that we can count on you to keep Butte County safe with polices consistent with CDC guidelines and peer reviewed research. Sincerely, Hilary Hassenzahl
