Dear Board Members,
I am a local business owner in Chico. I have raised my family here in Butte County and care
very much about the health and vibrancy of our community. This pandemic is exhausting and
we have lost many lives unnecessarily. We also suffer from long term illnesses and economic
hardships. It is clear that everybody would like for Covid to be finished but it is obviously not
over yet. With the return of students, now at risk of illness and transmission, we need leaders
to promote mitigation tools like masks and distancing until more people are vaccinated.
Our frontline workers are pleading with the community to ease their strain. Our resources are
overly taxed. We need leadership that is honest with constituents about public health issues.
We need truth and strength to fight this with unity. Pretending that the pandemic is nothing
endangers everything and everybody and is demonstrably irresponsible.
Please do the right thing. Do not rescind our state of emergency. Please help constituents face
the difficult reality before us all. Indulging in tantrums over masks and vaccines harms all
parties.
Lives and livelihoods are at stake.
