HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-072WHEREAS, after over 26 years of dedicated service to the County of Butte, Joseph Person, Jr., affectionately known
as Joe P. will be retiring on July 9, 2021. During his career, Joe's service to the citizens of Butte County, and the Butte
County Probation Department's, Juvenile Hall has been, exemplary; and
WHEREAS, Joe began his career in March of 1995 as extra -help and in January 1996 he was hired as a full-time
Juvenile Hall Counselor; and
WHEREAS, Joe performed multiple roles within Juvenile Hall as a Supervisor, an instructor, and an informal
guidance counselor for hundreds of youth and staff throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, Joe has assisted with many transformative initiatives within Juvenile Hall during his career. Joe was
instrumental in the development of a Camp program, PREA instruction, vocational training, etc...; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Joe, along within his fellow Supervising Juvenile Hall Counselors, were recognized as the
California Association of Probation Institution Administrators Supervisors of the Year for their heroic efforts in safely
evacuating the youth and staff of Butte County Juvenile Hall during the Oroville Dam spillway crisis.
WHEREAS, Joe has been an uplifting spirit to the hundreds of youth and staff who had the honor to work with
him. Joe's personality, laughter, and ability to soothe even the most upset youth with song is a testament to his uniqueness
as a kind and caring soul who always gave the best of himself in order to bring out the best in others; and
WHEREAS, for the reasons stated above and for many more, Joseph Person, Jr, embodies the absolutely blest in
service to others both at work and within the Butte County community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep
appreciation for the extraordinary service of Joseph Person, Jr. during his career with Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of June, 2021, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Lucero, Ritter, Kimmelshue, Teeter, and Chair Connelly
