HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-074RESOLUTION RECOGNING SERGEANT ROBERT COOLEY UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE WHEREAS, after 23 years of dedicated public service, Sergeant Robert Cooley will be retiring on June 11, 2021. During his career, his service to the citizens of Butte County and the Butte County Sheriff's Office has been exemplary. Sergeant Cooley began his law enforcement career in 1998 when hired by the Butte County Sheriff's Office as an extra - help Correctional Deputy and was hired as a full-time employee in May of 19919 and worked as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and Officer in Charge (OIC); and WHEREAS, in March 2007, Sergeant Cooley was promoted to Sergeant and assisted, with, the development and implementation of jail operation procedures still being utilized. In 2009, Sergeant Cooley was selected to supervise the Jail Transportation Unit where he was instrumental in facilitating a program to train, qualify and test Transport Unit staff to operate the specialized transport vehicle in cooperation with other government agencies and, initiated the practice of ride sharing with our neighboring counties for routine transports to reduce the cost and staff time related to transfers to other facilities; and WHEREAS, in 2013, Sergeant Cooley was selected as the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program (SWAP) and Jail Compliance Sergeant andl worked diligently to expand the services provided by SWAP to other agencies and assist with acquisition of vehicles and equipment necessary to perform services. Sergeant Cooley, in his, role as the Jail Compliance Sergeant, worked as the liaison with the inmate Advocate attorney, assisted with updating and creation of policies, and coordinated bi-annual inspections by the Board of State and Community Corrections; and WHEREAS, in, November 2018 Sergeant Cooley assisted in the response to the Camp Fire. He helped evacuate residents and coordinated the use of the Captain Bob Wagon to feed emergency personnel hot meals during the first 24 - hours of the response. For the reasons stated above and for many more, Sergeant Cooley embodies the characteristics of a dedicated Correctional Sergeant and great citizen of Butte County; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep appreciation for the exemplary service and unselfish dedication of Robert Cooley during his career with Butte County Sheriff's Office.
