Miranda FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 21, 2021 CONTACT Josh Jimerfield Deputy Administrative Officer, Office of Emergency Management 530.552.3333 BUTTE COUNTY PREPARES FOR INCREASED RAIN IN BURN SCAR AREAS Butte County, CA—The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Flash Flood Watch for areas in the North Complex Fire and Dixie Fire burn scars, and a Flood Watch for Valley and Foothill areas. This means that the conditions are right for flooding to occur. Butte County Public Works personnel are clearing drains and monitoring drainage areas in an effort to reduce flooding. Crews have staged equipment if needed, and will continue working through the weekend. Residents should prepare their property to reduce risk of flooding during heavy rains. A few things that can be done include: clearing drains, clearing ditches of vegetation and debris, and making sure any culverts or pipes are clear of obstructions. Sand and sandbags have been delivered to locations throughout Butte County, residents will need to bring their own shovels. A list of sandbag locations is available at https://www.buttecounty.net. Residents are encouraged to register for emergency notifications at www.buttecounty.net/massnotification. It is also important to stay informed and know the terms used to describe severe weather: Flood Watch = “Be Aware.” Conditions are right for flooding to occur in your area. Flood Warning = "Take Action!" Flooding is either happening or will happen shortly. During a Flood Warning: Move immediately to higher ground or stay on high ground. Evacuate if directed.
