PublicHealth Administration Danette York, M.P.H., Director David Canton, DO, MPH, JD, Health Officer, Interim 202 Mira Loma DriveT: 530.552.4000 buttecounty.net/publichealth Oroville, California 95965 F: 530.538.2164 Testing in Lieu of Masking for Indoor Basketball The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has stated “Masks are required for all persons while playing all indoor sports, unless wearing a mask during play has been determined to pose a choking hazard by a well-recognized health authority, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics.” Butte County Department of Public Health (BCPH), as a “well-recognized health authority” has determined wearing masks while playing indoor basketball could pose a choking hazard, as well as potential injuries, to student during play. As such, the sport of basketball is waived from California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirement for indoor mask use, for students during play. Students who fall under this exemption must undergo weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing using an FDA authorized PCR or antigen test.
