Weekly County Update
June 5, 2020
A LOOK AHEAD
This past week, the Assembly and the Senate reached agreement on and released their proposed 2020-21
Budget. There is not agreement between the Legislature and Governor yet. Negotiations on a final agreement
have begun and we anticipate it to continue through the weekend so that bills can be drafted and put into print by

approve a budget and send it to the Governor by June 15.

The Senate Appropriations Committee will be meeting next week to dispense with their regular business as well

as their suspense file. After the Budget is approved, later that week on June 19, the Assembly will be
adjourning for a three-week summer recess. All Assembly bills will have either been passed by the Assembly,
and are on to the Senate, or they will be dead for the remainder of the session. The Senate will continue to work
for two additional weeks beyond June 19, and they will recess for a one-week vacation on July 3. The Senate
deadline to approve Senate bills is June 26. When both houses return on July 13, their schedules will be aligned
again.

Budget
This week Senate President pro Tem Atkins, Assembly Speaker Rendon, and Budget Committee Chairs,
announced an agreement has been reached between the Senate and the Assembly on the proposed 2020-
2021 state budget. For more information, see here.
This week the Assembly Floor Report of the 2020-21 Budget agreement between the Assembly and Senate

Governor Gavin Newsom Press Conference
The Governor held a press conference in Sacramento following meetings throughout the state with community,
faith and youth leaders, small business owners and elected officials this week on racism, systemic injustice and
