Yoder and Karen Lange - SYASL COVID-19 Update AT1 COVID-19 Updates www.covid19.ca.gov June 5, 2020 Newsom Administration -Resources / Mutual Aid / Executive Orders Today, Governor Newsom held a press conference in Sacramento and announced he will be working with the legislature to create a new statewide standard for policing peaceful protests in collaboration with experts, activists, and enforcement leaders. In his press conference, he mentioned a social justice legislative package is underway and some efforts may be tied to budget trailer bills in the coming weeks. You may view the press release here. Governor Newsom also announced today that additional guidelines will be released for counties this afternoon. The guidance that is set to be announced will be in effect next Friday, June 12, and variance counties can begin allowing these activities to open on June 12 if their local health officer allows it based on data specific to that county. The guidance released today will be for: o Day Camps o Campgrounds o Hotels o TV/Film/Music Industry o Card Rooms o Professional Sports without Audience o Family Entertainment Centers o Museums o Zoos o Gyms (pools will also be addressed in both gyms and campground guidance) o Bars o Wineries The State will also issue guidance for schools today, but do not anticipate schools being able to implement that guidance by June 12. The State will not be addressing non-essential travel yet, notwithstanding hotel and campground guidance being issued today. Today’s release will not include guidance on nail salons, youth sports, weddings, or playgrounds. The State is working on these for future release and understands that counties are getting asked about those sectors on a continual basis. The state will also be posting county-by-county data today that will be used by the State as the monitoring tool to decide when a county might need State support or even intervention. When asked by the press about plans to deal with any surges in COVID-19 cases related to protests taking place around the State, Newsom referred to individual county attestation plans posted on the State’s COVID-19 website and noted the State has been preparing over the past 100 days for an increase in cases as the economy reopens and our capacity has never been more prepared from all aspects to meet a surge with PPE and other available aid. He also mentioned that he has been working with Mayors around the State and that it is his desire that they begin to rapidly pull back on curfews and the deployment of National Guard members so that resources can be redeployed to existing COVID-19 efforts.
