Board Vacancy Notice
The Butte County Board of Supervisors is hereby giving notice of a vacancy on the First 5 Butte County
Children and Families Commission(Commission),for aRegular Commissionerseat. The Board of
Supervisors may consider making an appointment to fill this vacancy on or after June23, 2020.The term
of this appointment ends June 30, 2022.
The Commission is part of a Statewide effort to create a seamless system of integrated and
comprehensive programs and services by establishing community-based programs to provide parental
education and family support services relevant to effective childhood development; encouraging pregnant
women and parents of young children to quit smoking; and educating the public on the importance and
the benefits of nurturing, health care, family support, and child care. The Commission’s general purpose
shall be to promote, support and improve the early development of children from the prenatal stage
through five years of age through the creation and implementation of an integrated, comprehensive and
collaborative system of information and services to enhance early childhood development.
The Commission is made up of nine Commissioners, five alternate Commissioners, and staff. All
Commissioners are appointed by the Butte County Board of Supervisors. The nineCommissioners shall
be comprised of the following:the Director of the Department of Public Health, or his/her designee; the
Director of the Employment and Social Services, or his/her designee; one member of the Board of
Supervisors; and six members from the following groups (with the intent that representatives from as
many groups as possiblewill serve on the Commission): (a) recipients of project services as set forth in
the county strategic plan; (b) educators specializing in early childhood development; (c) representatives
of a local group for prevention or intervention for families at risk; (d) representatives of community based
organizations that have a goal of promoting nurturing and early childhood development; (e)
representatives of local school districts; (f) representatives of local medical, pediatric, or obstetric
associations or societies; (g) theCounty Health Officer and/or persons responsible for the management
of the following county functions: children’s services, public health services, behavioral health services,
social services, and tobacco and other substance abuse prevention and treatment services; and (h)
representativesof a local child care resource or referral agency, or a local child care coordinating group.
