Good afternoon Board Members –
th
At the Board Meeting on January 11, the Board was making various appointment including for
Reclamation District No. 833. A question was raised about how the District was formed and also
about when the District last conducted an election for Board Trustees.
This webpage on the Butte LAFCo website provides information about Reclamation District No. 833
including a link to the municipal service review conducted for this and other districts. The section for
Reclamation District No. 833 begins on page 9-1.
Reclamation District No. 833 was initially formed in 1921 under the State Reclamation Act. The
Board resolution establishing the District could not be located. I spoke LAFCo Executive Director,
Steve Lucas, who indicated that at the time the District was established it would have been by
property owner vote.
Charles Nuchols, the Manager for Reclamation District No. 833 indicated an election was last held
for Board Trustees in approximately 2002. He indicated that the District typically requests the Board
of Supervisors appoint Board Trustees in lieu of election because there are not usually more
applicants than positions and it provides a significant cost savings for the District.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks.
