Board Members,
I want to give you a heads up over the impact that implementing Workday is having on the
organization. Because we had to do a three year implementation in just one year, the go-live version
of Workday is fairly rudimentary. Meanwhile, we continue to implement components as we fine
tune and improve the live functions.
Some departments are impacted more than others. Specifically, the Sheriff’s Office is feeling the
pain, due to their complicated payroll that includes specialty pay, shift pay, differentials, and
certificates. What used to be fairly automated in the old system is currently being done manually,
which is requiring staff to spend much more time in this function. The Sheriff may reach out to you
to voice his frustrations. He’s not wrong in his frustration, and we are working hard to resolve the
issues and get to where we need to be.
Ultimately we’ll get to where we want/need to go, but it won’t be nearly as quick as we’d all want it
to be. We have a lot of resources working on it, including our consultants, a small army of County
employees, and a number of retired county employees who understand what we’re doing.
