WHEREAS, Butte County plays avital role in, identifying and mitigating public cu6eraecuritvthreats that may have
significant impact on privacy; and;
WHEREAS, public and private sector entities are increa�singly reliant on information systems and technologies to
protect the applications, devices, services, and environments that touch our everyday lives; and
WHEREAS, being conscientious of the information one shares online across all social media and e-commerce
platforms, and always being mindful of applying good security principles to protect oneself from phishing, viruses,
nnalwere, and loss ofsensitive data; and
WHEREAS, to increase the uinderstanding of cyber threats and empowerthe American public tobesafer and more
secure nmUime^ e national cvhersecuhty public awareness campaign implemented by coalition of private companies,
nonprofit and government organizations, and academic institutions have created and implemented StmpThimh.Cnnnect.nw

WHEREAS, Butte County Information Systems utilizes the National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
Cybersecurity Workforce Framework as a valuable resource that helps improve cybersecurity practices by addressing
cybersecurity threats and challenges as they evolve; and
WHEREAS, cybersecm,by education and awareness are crucial for everyone, including large corporations, small
businesses, financial inistitutionis, schools, government agencies, and anyone who connects to the internet; and
WHEREAS, maintaining the security of cyberspace is a collaborative effort with shored nesponsibi|ity, and
awareness ofcomputer security essentials improves the overall security mfButte County's information,, infrastructure,
and economy; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department ofHomeland Security, the Multi -State Information Sharing and Analysis Center,
the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, and the National Cyber Security Alliance, along with the Butte
County Department ofInformation Systems, andtheStop.Th|nh.Comnect.`°campaigm,mecogmizeC}ctoberasCybersecurity
Awareness Month and encourage the public to pmtcybersecmrity knowledge and protections into practice across all
environments in which they access the internet, social media, or e-commerce;
NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, hereby declare the month of
October 2021 as Cybersecuirity Awareness Month.
