support to survivors and their families, important work remains to be done; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence programs in California provide essential, lifesaving services for survivors, Their
children, and communities, there is still a need to provide education, awareness and understanding of domestic violence
and its causes; and
WHEREAS, approximately 40% of California women experience physical intimate partner violence in their
lifetimes; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence affects pemple of all genders, sexual orientations, ages,racial, ethnic, cultural, social,
religious, and economic groups in the United States and in California. The nnarAino|ioatimm of certain groups in soc|e1y,
including undocumented individuals, transgemdmr individuals, and people living with disabilities, increases their
vulnerability to domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families, in the United States; and
WHEREAS, children exposed to domestic violence can experience long-term consequences incliuding difficulty at
school, substance abuse, behaviorail problems in adolescence, and serious adult health problems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE|TRESOLVED that the Butte County Board mf Supervisors imrecognition, ofthe important
work done bvdomestic violence programs, dm hereby proclaim the month, ofOctober 2O21 as, Domestic Violence
Awareness Month and urge all residents to participate in the scheduled activities and programs sponsored by Catalyst
Domestic Violence Services to work towards building healthy relationships and eliminating intimate partner violence.
