WHEREAS, every year, more than 12D,008chi|dmeniofoster care )nthe United States are avaiLeblle for adoption; and
WHEREAS, the average length of time a child spends in foster oone in the United States waiting for an adoptive
family isbetween two and four years; and
WHEREAS, in Butte County there are approximately 500 children, and youth in foster care; and
WHEREAS, from December 1, 2020 to October 30, 202I, 63 Butte County cNhdren in foster care have been
officially placed for adoption. During the, months of November and December, an additi»nal 17 adoptimns will be finalized;
and
WHEREAS, November has been designated as National Adoption Awareness Month and is declared so by
presidential proclamation each year; and
WHEREAS, the goal ofNational Adoption, Awareness Month istoincrease public awareness ofthe needs ofchildren
waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of adoptive parents,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
November 2021 as Adoption Awareness Month in Butte County; recognizes that even/ child deserves permanent and
loving family; and encourages all citizen:s to con:sider adoption during the month of November and throughout the year.
