WHEREAS, after 25years ofdedicated public service, Captain B,eU|will beretiring onDecember 30,2021.During
his career, his service to the citizens of Butte County and the Butte County Sheriff s, Office has been exemplary; and
WHEREAS, Captain, Bell began his law enforcement career in 1996 when he was hired by the Yuba County 5heriff's
Office as a deputy sheriff. While employed by the Yuba County Sheriff, then Deputy Bell worked on patrol and served on
the YCSO SWAT team from 19,97 to 20011. On January 13, 2001 he was hired to be a deputy sheriff for the Butte Co,unty
Sheriff's Office. During his tenure with the Butte County Sheriffs Office, Captain Bell has held assignments in patrol,
training, backgrounds, and patrol administration. In 20012, Captain Bell joined the BC5O SWAT team, where he was a
dedicated member until IQ1G; and
WHEREAS, in April of 2005, them Deputy 8eU| was promoted to Sheriffs Sergeant where he over saw training,
backgrounds, and internal affairs until 2011 when he became the Sergeant over Patrol Administration, In JQOB, he
developed oLive Fire Instructor Course and amActive Shooter Course and both courses became POST Certified. |m2Q1Z,he
became the Bomb Squad Liaison and performed inthat role until 2Q15; aimd
WHEREAS, in August 2015, then Sergeant Bell was promoted to Sheriff's Lieutenant and vvaia tasked with
overseeing the Sen/ices Division, which included training, backgrounds, internal affairs, patrol adnnimistration, and
emergency management; and
WHEREAS, in ]uk/ of 2019, them Lieutenant Bell was promoted to Sheriff's Captain and assigned as the Services
Division Commander; and
WHEREAS, In his time at B[SO, Captain Bell has assisted with the Spillway Incident, the VVaU Rma Incident, the
Camp Fire Incident and countless other emergencies Butte County has faced; and
WHEREAS, for the reasons staited above and for many more, too numerous to express, Captain Bell embodies the
characteristics of a superb Captain, an exemplary law enforcement officer, and great citizen of Butte County, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte Comnty Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep
appreciation for the exemplary service and unselfish dedication of Derek Bell during his career with the Butte County
Sheriff's Office.
