Efrain,
Thanks very much for the call today and the timely information. I am a partner in a business park
that is approximately 1,200 acres in Sacramento. As a result I work with County building department
in Sacramento regularly with new and existing building construction and have been for 20 years. This
statement is just to qualify my message below via years of experience with county building
departments.
This email’s intent is to express my appreciation to your department in Butte county with every
interaction I’ve had with you all since my home was destroyed in Sep of 20. I suppose this goes even
beyond the building department with the lot clean group as well up as well. My first contact with the
building department was Sonia at the Butte county fire victim relief center shortly after the fire. She
was so helpful, had the information I needed on her computer specific to my property as my hard
copy plans were destroyed in the fire as well. Not only was I able to get my plans emailed right away
her compassion was just wonderful! Her caring demeanor was absolutely uplifting, obvious and not
at all what I expected nor what I typically experience with municipal departments in my profession.
Since that day I have spoken to your department several times and each time I am treated with more
than courtesy regardless of who I speak to, there is a genuine sense of caring and compassion with
each person I’ve spoken to including yourself today. Information sharing is prompt, questions
answered quickly, accurately and I really can’t tell you how meaningful that all is to someone dealing
with a loss like this. I suppose some of this is due to the unfortunate facts that Butte county has had
more loss of life and probably more loss of improved properties than any other state county so your
team is well versed but accolades are due for such a caring group nonetheless. I can only imagine
the things you guys are dealing with when one of these fires rips a community apart like the North
Complex and Camp Fires did. Whatever you guys have done to prepare your staff for this is working
and as it just makes me smile, breathe easier and makes pushing the devastation behind much
easier knowing you are being supported by such a team of people. My hat is off to you all, I am
humbled.
Please share with folks in your department. I know it is much more common for them or anyone
these days to hear the complaints and issues in an increasingly unforgiving way in our culture sadly,
your team deserves recognition for a culture of cooperation and caring.
All the Best,
Scott
