HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.7.22 BOF updateFrom:Daneluk, Paula To:BOS Cc:Pickett, Andy Subject:BOF update Date:Monday, March 7, 2022 5:29:40 PM Quick update on the BOF proposed Fire Safe Regs…The BOF had the draft regulations on their agenda last week, but prior to any discussion pulled the item. The Chair said that they were unready to proceed at that time. Staff will continue to monitor the situation to see if they come back with additional revisions or discussion. On another note, at the BOF Resource Protection Committee meeting last week they did discuss the outcome from the working group on proposed defensible space regulations for the 0-5 feet zone from a structure. There was some good information, but unfortunately it appears the working group is going to propose regulations that will again be problematic for our citizens and local agencies. They were proposing regulations that would address things like the type of containers plants could be planted in within the 0-5 feet zone and allowing grass as long as it was less than 3 inches tall. I did speak during the public comment period to encourage the group to consider the difficulty and cost of implementation of the things they were talking about and to encourage them to look at a more aggressive marketing and education program to implement these kinds of changes.
