I understand there exists a vacancy on the Water Commission. I am a proud and active Butte County resident, and I have lived in Butte County for the past twenty- four (24) years. I am a home owner and a responsible "water well" user. I believe in water conservation and preservation, and I practice "responsible water usage" at my home. My home address is 2080 Bidwell Avenue in Chico, CA. As a First-Generation Mexican-American, I take great pride in calling myself a resident and home owner in Butte County. We are blessed, as Butte County residents, to live in a Northstate community that is so full of rich and natural resources, including water. I feel very strongly that it is our responsibility to protect our water and its waterways for future generations. During my career, I have been very active in my work and volunteerism in Butte County. I have worked as an educator with at-risk youth in the Butte County Juvenile Hall; I have taught as an Adjunct Professor at Chico State in the Department of Education; and I have volunteered as a coach and instructor with various youth sports groups over the years. I have also volunteered both my time and my resources with Chico Velo (the bicycle association) and various nonprofits. If elected to the Butte County Water Commission, I pledge to faithfully fulfill all duties related to the Water Commission including service as an active and informed liaison between both state and federal water agencies. Further, I have the ability and the passion to track and follow closely any and all water legislation affecting Butte County. My duty would be to provide current and timely reports on "water issues" to the Butte County Board of Supervisors and help inform the Board's decisions on water policies in favor of our residents, our farms, and our communities. Re: Water Commission Vacancy February 17, 2022 Page 2 I have a love for water. In my youth, I competed in competitive swimming. Today, I enjoy fishing and boating with my son and daughter at our area lakes and on the Sacramento River. Additionally, my own brother is a Biologist for the State of California. He has helped me develop a keen understanding of the importance of being a "responsible steward for the land and for our waterways." If elected to the Butte County Water Commission, I would bring my passion and respect for water and water issues to the Commission and to the job. I have attached my resume herein for your review. Thank you for the opportunity to apply to the Butte County Water Commission. Signed, M. I have applied to serve as the landowner with a well position on the Water Commission because I believe there are many people concerned about the sustainability of the local aquifers. With the upcoming adoption of groundwater sustainability plans that are being developed to protect our water resources, I thought I should offer to get involved. Thousands of homeowners rely on their wells for their home uses, gardens, and pets. Thank you! Davin M Arvonen Feb. 9, 2022 Butte County Board of Supervisors 25 County Center Dr. Oroville, CA 95966 Dear Board of Supervisors, I would like to recommend Davin Arvonnen for the open landowner private well seat on the Butte County Water Commission. As a Butte County native, Davin brings both local and outside perspectives. He moved around a lot as a child because his father was in the Navy, giving him the opportunity to experience many different places and develop a broad worldview. He moved back to Chico in the mid-80s and graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1994. Shortly after, he enlisted in the military and continued to move around with his job for about 10 years before settling in Durham with his wife in 2003. He’s lived in Durham ever since on property that has been in his family since 1962, originally owned by his grandparents. Davin’s grandfather was a dentist and he opened the first dentistry practice in Durham. Davin retired from 24 years of service to the Navy in 2019 and has since served as a California Highway Patrol Officer. I met Davin last summer at a meeting when he expressed interest in learning more about local water issues. I believe Davin would be a good addition to the water commission as a landowner private well representative for many reasons. My experience in talking with Davin, he seems to seek knowledge and information and asks smart questions. He is approachable and level headed, and has training to de-escalate heated situations and understand different points of view. It is not easy to work in law enforcement, Davin encounters many situations everyday wherein he has to listen to both sides of the story before making decisions that have great consequences. Additionally, as a highway patrol officer and his previous service to the Navy, he has demonstrated his heart for public service. In my interactions with Davin, I have found him to be a professional, community-minded local citizen with a wealth of personal and professional experiences that will bring value to the water commission. For these reasons, I would strongly recommend the board of supervisors appoint Davin Arvonnen to the Butte County Water Commission. Sincerely, Nicole Johansson
