Alpert has served as Butte County Counsel since September 2000, and is currently the longest serving County Counsel in California. Through his nearly 22 years serving as County Counsel, Alpert has provided sound legal advice to the Board of Supervisors, Chief Administrator’s Office, and multiple appointed and elected Department Heads. Not only has Alpert guided the County through legal issues following multiple large scale emergencies, he has also served as the Lead County Negotiator on multiple lawsuits, including the Camp Fire lawsuit against PG&E resulting in a $252 million dollar settlement for the County, as well as a lawsuit against DWR regarding road damage during the Spillway incident resulting in a $12 million dollar settlement. Alpert also served as a Lead County Negotiator on a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma and other Opioid manufacturers which will provide the County with over $30 million dollars during the next 8 years for local education, care and treatment for drug addiction. In the water arena, Alpert has legally guided the County in the 20 year effort to protect its recreational, economic and environmental interests in the ongoing FERC relicensing of Lake Oroville. He also led a successful litigation effort against DWR to establish Area of Origin rights to Butte’s Table A water. “Bruce has provided much appreciated legal guidance to County leadership for many years, he is very well respected in his role not just within Butte County, but throughout the state as well. He will be missed, we wish him all the best in retirement,” said Bill Connelly, Butte County Board of Supervisors Chairman. “Butte County has been a wonderful place to work. I have enjoyed the Public Law experience and the daily interaction with the many wonderful public servants who work for the benefit of the residents of Butte County. It has been my good fortune to have had the opportunity to guide the County through multiple complex and challenging legal issues, resulting in a very rewarding career,” said Alpert.
