While I realize there are many needs in the county, this one is dire and the time to act is now. When I lived in Chico during the late 1970’s, the California Highway Patrol was housed in what is now the Sheriff’s Substation on E Park Avenue. The CHP left that facility over forty years ago because it was old, outdated and no longer met their needs. The CHP has since built and moved into a second upgraded facility, while the Sheriff remains in the inadequate E Park building. Our Butte County/Cal Fire station on Fair Street is nothing short of a disgrace. Firefighters are housed in a single-wide trailer. They have cargo containers and sheds for their equipment and supplies, and a metal building for their trucks. With the annexation of South Chico, the station is currently better located to serve the city rather than our unincorporated county residents. I can’t help but wonder how many times over the citizens have paid for the structures and property during the time the county has leased it. We expect exceptional service from our county law enforcement and firefighters. At the very least, they need and deserve adequate facilities from which to provide that service. Let’s move forward on this North County Public Safety Complex project now. Bob Fracolli Chico, CA. 95928 Sent from my iPad
