BUTTE COUNTY TO HOLD RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY IN CELEBRATION OF THE RECENT REOPENING OF THE MIDWAY
BRIDGE OVER BUTTE CREEK
Butte County, Ca— After over a year of construction, the Midway Bridge over Butte Creek reopened at the beginning of
March. The new bridge replaces two bridges originally constructed in 1915 and 1918.
The Midway Bridge Replacement project stands as one of the largest capital improvement projects undertaken by Butte
County Public Works Department. The contract amount for construction of the bridge was approximately $20,100,000.00,
with 88.53% of the construction costs being reimbursed through the Federal Highway Bridge Program.
In addition to construction costs, the County invested nearly $2.8 million in project development and design, including
environmental studies, mitigation measures, and right-of-way acquisition. The Federal Highway Bridge Program will also
reimburse the County for 88.53% of the $2.8 million spent on project development and design.
Completion of the project is the culmination of over 10 years of work by the Public Works Department staff, consultant
partners, and Caltrans. “This has been a big project, one that has taken time. I want to acknowledge the work and
leadership of retired Supervisor Lambert for getting this project started; and of the Public Works Staff for seeing it through,
as well as the other county staff and consultants who contributed to the completion. Butte County residents have been
patient through more than a year of disrupted driving routines. I, for one, am happy to have this bridge back, and better
than ever. Great work, everyone,” said District 4 Supervisor, Tod Kimmelshue.
The media is invited to join in a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the recent reopening of the Midway Bridge.
