BCPH and our many community partners have an important role in protecting and improving the health of our community and environment. BCPH works to keep communities healthy by promoting healthy behaviors, preventing illness and protecting the health of people where they live, work and play through education, immunizations, policy, advocacy and more! Public health professionals also work to help communities prevent, prepare for, withstand and recover from the impact of a full range of health threats, including disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic, measles, natural disasters and disasters caused by human activity. A presidential proclamation in 1995 designated the first full week of April as National Public Health Week to heighten awareness of important public health issues. Through this year’s theme, “Public Health is Where You Are” BCPH will join other county public health departments to raise awareness that where we live impacts individual and community health. There is a significant difference in health status, such as obesity, poor mental health and drug use, among people living in rural areas compared with people living in urban areas. This variance increases because rural residents are often more likely to face social determinants that negatively impact health, such as housing, transportation, economic opportunity and access to healthcare. BCPH encourages the residents of Butte County to join us in celebration of creating strong and healthy communities in Butte County. ### Lisa Almaguer Communications Manager / PIO BUTTE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH 202 Mira Loma Drive | Oroville, CA 95965 T: 530.552.4000 | D: 530.552.4041 “Nationally Accredited, 09/13/17” FACEBOOK | TWITTER COUNTY OF BUTTE E-MAIL DISCLAIMER: This e-mail and any attachment thereto may contain private, confidential, and privileged material for the sole use of the intended recipient.
