Butte County to Resume Accepting Water Well Permit Applications,
Compliant With New California Water Conservation Measures
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – After placing a temporary pause on water well permits, pursuant to
California Executive Order N-7-22, Butte County Public Health’s (BCPH) Environmental Health
Division, along with other County departments and in coordination with Groundwater Sustainability
Agencies (GSA) within the county, have established a new permit review process, compliant with the
order.
Environmental Health will resume accepting applications for water well permits, effective
immediately. Interested residents should visit the Environmental Health website
(www.buttecounty.net/ph/Environmental-Health) for updated well permit application forms.
The order, issued by Governor Newson on March 28, requires cities and counties to implement new
water conservation measures in response to California’s severe drought conditions.
Not all parcels in the county are located within the boundary of a GSA. If it is determined that a
proposed well is located within the boundaries of a GSA, additional time may be needed to review
and process the well permit application consistent with the new permit review process. There are
eleven GSAs within Butte County. Residents can determine which GSA they are located in, if
applicable, on the GSA map viewer here: tinyurl.com/2p99jyv7
