Dear Butte County Board of Supervisors, I am pleased to see signs of across the board collaboration to support the health of this community. One such item under consideration at your meeting on 2/22/2022 that makes me hopeful this effort is underway is your letter in support for AB 2020 - Mental health services: Gravely Disabled. The agenda item notes that “AB 2020 would clarify and fine tune the definition of "gravely disabled", which is used to evaluate the needs to establish an Lanterman-Petris-Short Conservatorship. This change would work to ensure individuals suffering from serious mental illness receive the support they need.” As you know, I have been pushing for something like this to occur for sometime and came before the board specifically to ask that this Board, the Chico City Council and the Oroville City Council work together to draft such a letter to request that the state do more, such as amend existing mental health laws/codes and provide needed funding to make these positive changes in the area of mental health and substance abuse treatment. So I am wholeheartedly in support of you sending this support letter for AB 2020 to the state, and if it is approved, I thank you for taking this much needed action. Sincerely, Nichole Nava Chico, Butte County Resident
